Pedro at Shearing Time 2006-- Ranch tours and consultation by appointment. Herdsire--Pedro Armendariz
Pedro is a mild-mannered, healthy, strong all white Bolivian Huacaya with four crias on the ground, three females, one male. Pedro shows wonderful traits as a herdsire, protecting his herd. He is a very effective breeder. Pedro's four crias (whose dams are white females) are three
white females, two with a dark fawn spot. They are pictured
below. All four have Pedro's extremely dense fiber and their dams' crimp and
luster. Pedro passes on his unusually dense fiber. If you
need density, Pedro is an excellent choice. His last two shearings
produced over 12 pounds of gorgeous white fiber each that spun into yarn very
nicely. Pedro carries color from his sire, Bolivian Mocha (ARI# 184783), who is a fantastic, densely-fibered dark brown Bolivian import (breeding fee $2250). What the experts say about Pedro's sire: "Mocha crias are unbelievable with dense crimpy fleece!" That statement certainly is true of Pedro.

Pedro's 2005 Girls: Lola and Lilly with ribbon won at 2005 Alpaca Showcase. Lilly placed third in a large yearling class at 2006 Alpacapalooza. The judge commented that her conformation was excellent and that her dense fleece showed "Brilliance Throughout."
Paloma of Pend Oreille, one of Pedro's 2006 crias, took first place in a very competitive Yearling Female class at the Pacific Northwest Alpaca Showcase. She was the youngest in her class at only 12 1/2 months of age. She also took second behind a much more mature brown in Bred and Owned Yearling Female Class. April 2007. Not only did the judge remark about her strong conformation, he used her as an example to explain to the audience what a long-staple, fine, crimpy fleece should be. Paloma is further proof of Pedro's strong characteristics that are passed on to his offspring.
Pedro's Stats: It's All About the Fiber-- Pedro's Fleece Has Only Been Entered in Three Shows: First Place, Spin-Off, Alpaca Western Extravaganza, Portland, OR, April 2006. Third Place, Spin-Off, Alpacapalooza, Puyallup, WA, April 2006. Highest Marks in Class of 2-years and older for Fineness and Handle, Alpaca Affaire Northwest, 2006 Histogram at SIX YEARS OF AGE: Mean= 25.87 micron [national average is 28 microns]; SD= 4.9; CV= 18.9; Spin Fineness= 24.8; Comfort Factor= 84.5 %; Curve= 51.3 deg/mm; 5 % of fibers 9 micron above mean. [dated July 5, 2006]. Professional fleece evaluation: "Not many cut above 10 pounds" as Pedro did at 12 pounds per year. "His CV and SD indicate that his fleece is good in uniformity"..." You can see that his curvature is really good, something to market. Animals above 50 certainly command higher prices." "Pedro has held his own."
Fleece length 4" to 4.5." Six to eight crimps per inch in various areas of the 2006 shorn fleece. 12 lbs!
